Survey Update and Marketing Mix

We have gathered some great information from our survey so far.  This information will be used to determine many of the factors that will go into our marketing mix.  These are the results as of Friday, July 20, 2012:

  •   More than half of the survey respondents purchase their smartphones at cell phone providers such as Verizon, T Mobile, Sprint, and AT&T.
  • 50% of respondents consider $350 - $500 to be a reasonable price for the latest smartphone without an upgrade or contract.
  • Texting seems to be the most widely used function of a smartphone.
  • When choosing a smartphone, battery life is the most important consideration to buyers.  Resolution / display and smartphone capabilities came second.

Along with distributing the iPhone 5 at all Apple stores worldwide, we will make the product available online and at major retailers of providers such as AT&T.  The iPhone 5 will have the long-awaited 4G capabilities and a significantly longer battery life.  This smartphone will be advertised for both business and personal use, where users will have the convenience of one device encompassing all their needs (calling, texting, social networking, picture-taking, internet access, etc.).

  1. I think I fall within those results which is fairly accurate in my opinion. Maybe it is my preference, but I would definitely want a phone that last me the whole day without running out of battery too soon.

  2. Interesting results. I especially found interesting that battery life was the most important consideration when buying a smartphone. However, now that I think about it, it makes sense. Good work!

  3. Yes! I have food that the battery does not last as long as I was originally told. I have also been told the more apps that are open the quicker the battery dies...I still end up having to charge my phone at least once a day to every other day! Another suggestion that may be of help is the structure or accessories of the phones. The charger port tends to get very dusty and collects all kinds of pocket lint and so forth, I have had numerous other phones that have provided a protection for this, maybe iphone can start using one as well!

I look forward to see what other changes or additions could be made to your product!

    1. I have taken the survey...however I think that number 7 should be multiple choice with numerous answers because that is a difficult one to choose just one option with all the capabilities that a phone provides! And with question 10, I can only choose from the phones I have had experience with so I cannot come with the operating systems of the other two therefore by default can provide a fair response.

  4. I absolutely the the iPhone! My only question is, do you feel that there is enough relative difference between the iPhone 4 and 5 to create a strong enough demand? I feel that the 4 has so many capabilities that I am still learning every day that I do not use it to its full potential. I would need a distinct difference to persuade me to buy the 5. Perhaps you could change the design to make it very clear that the 5 is new.

    1. You make some really good points, that is true its hard to learn all the tricks to the phone so maybe a simple online tutorial or simple user card. Also far as commercializing, definitely emphasize the relative advantages the 5 has over the 4.

  5. What is your marketing mix? Apple fans are waiting a new iPhone - we don't know what name Apple will use, so i call it a new iPhone. iPhone 4S is a good phone, but it is not successful. And its price is $199 with a contract or an upgrade. If the new iPhone does not meet customer's needs, it will have same result of iPhone 4S. If it happens, what is your marketing plan?

    1. What do you mean the IPhone is not successful. The 4s has been widely successful. I would love to hear why you do not feel this way.

    2. We will be Reposting for the market mix to give everyone a clear understanding. The 4s has had a large market share and has been out for sometime. New smart phones such as the S3 is in its growth rate climbing towards the 4s where it is maturing. Our new iPhone or iPhone 5 will not only maintain market lead, but will increase dramatically.

  6. I think the new iphone should be significantly different from iphone 4s as well as other popular phone brands such as Samsung, Google, etc.Nowadays many phones are very similar in their capabilities and functions. I think if Iphone wants to be successful just like the introduction of their 3g phones to the market, they need something new and creative not just improving camera resolution or changing the size a little thinner.

  7. Are you intending to offer the factory unlocked phone as well so that I can use it with the carrier at my home country as I travel back and forth between the two countries very often. I absolutely do not want to unlock the phone "manually". That might be more expensive than the one with upgrade or new contract plan but I think it is worth the money to possess one.

  8. The facts don't lie! Thats what I answered to all of them. Battery life is the reason I switched from the Evo4S to the iPhone.

    1. I agree, the battery life on my Blackberry was pathetic and a change was needed. Along with the unbelievable capabilities of the iphone, battery life was the next biggest reason I need to switch

  9. I agree with everybody about the battery. I think that the battery will be the most important characteristic of introducing your new Iphone 5 . Nowadays is very import to have access to your cell all day for many reasons like ( emergencies, business, etc;).

  10. I would agree that battery life is very important. My current phone only gets 4-5 hours of battery life after heavy use. Not enough to get through the day without being near a charger. Personally, I would switch to the iphone 5 if it has longer battery life.

  11. I think your survey gave you great results on what is important to smartphone users. I personally think that the feature of having 4G is a big thing that people do not realize is lacking for the iPhone. I personally have Android because if you know how to use it, it can do so many things that an iPhone cannot. Most people buy it for the simplicity of use and not for features as your survey showed that most people use it for texting and not other functions that smartphones are capable of. All of the results of your survey point to simplicity over features, which is right in-line with the market that the iPhone grabs.

  12. Great survey results! I can't wait for the iPhone 5, I think it'll be awesome. It'll also definitely fix what is missing from the 4S.

  13. I agree with the comments above. The battery life is extremely important. iPhones come out every couple years, and there will always be the loyal Apple customers that will make the purchase when available. But to attract new customers, you definitely have to make #5 stand out from all the older ones. Yesterday I had to choose between the Galaxy III or wait for iPhone 5 to come out first. I decided to go with the Galaxy because I figured in a couple years, a new and improved iPhone 6 is going to come out anyways.
