We were thinking that the barriers to entry for the iPhone 5 are:
1. The capital requirements: needed for the huge capital to introduce the new operating system and new features on the phone.
2. The government policy: it will require a patent for both the unique operating system and features.
Do you guys think there are more barriers to entry?
It could be the existing iPhone 4S. If the difference is not that great, consumers will not be more willing to buy the iPhone 5. Some other barriers might be its competitors I think.
ReplyDeleteI believe the biggest barrier could be the growing popularity of Android operation system which competes seriously with iOS. And Samsung Galaxy smartphones would be the barrier for your company as well. I hope my opinion helps.
ReplyDeleteThis is a very good point. With Blackberry fading as a brand, Iphone and the Android system have been battling it out. How are you going to differ yourself from the Android market and show your superiority?
DeleteFrom the perspective of users, I think operating system is not an emphasis for differentiating your phone product. What users prefer are the application programs to use with a current operating system. Focusing on developing applications will make you more profitable.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Joshua. The iPhone 4s hasn't been out that long. I was late in getting one, so I still don't use it to the fullest capacity. Unless there was a great advantage for the iPhone 5, I'm not sure i would be convinced to purchase one. I would make it distinctively different as far as the design goes. That way when people see them it is obvious that they have the newest and greatest phone. If I felt the design of my phone was outdated, i might be compelled to purchase a new one.
ReplyDeleteI think one of barriers is how to compete with other cellphone manufacturers. Microsoft cooperating with Nokia is introducing new versions of Window Phones. Or, the growth of Samsung Galaxy 3 with Android operations is a thread. In order to being success, iPhone 5 needs new features and a special design.
ReplyDeleteShannon and Joshua make a great point that you will need to bring something to the table that is new and fresh. since the market is saturated with all different types of product you will need to make yours stand out in some way.
ReplyDeleteI strongly agree with Aung Moe, it’s really interesting how the growing popularity of Android system has had an aggressive impact today in the economy, so I think you guys should to innovate your system with a good method.
ReplyDeleteYou have to look at the competitors. A majority of iPhone users were loyal Apple consumers, other look for the competitive advantage it has against others. And for the record, your hyperlink is spelled incorrectly on Titanium
ReplyDeleteApple's iPhone do not have much of a barrier in my opinion. There is the Android but even when they release a new phone, they do not get lines around buildings like the iPhone does. Apple has a very loyal consumer base.
ReplyDeleteA major barrier would be logistical support in foreign markets. Not every market allows its users to access their phones abilities 100% of the time.
